THE PEUTINGERIANA PANEL

The Tavola Peutingeriana (or Peutingerian Panel), is a copy of Carta Itineriaria Militare Romana (Roman Military Road Map) that the Emperor had drawn up in the period 379-395 in order to facilitate the movement of the Roman armies. This map of 12 sheets of which one is illegible, was found in 1507 at the library of Worms (Germany). This map, despite transcriptions and notations made on it by various copyists over the centuries, is of exceptional value because of its close correspondence to modern highway maps.
