THE RAILWAY STATION (S.EUFEMIA)

The station of S. Eufemia was point of reference for the construction of the agricultural village of the same name, in context of the reclamation of the malarial plain that was begun in February 1928.

Serving all of central Calabria as an important link in the Naples-Reggio route, it became the primary communications infrastructure that determined the new settlement of S. Eufemia, just as the stations of S. Pietro and Maida and Curinga did for villages that arose in their vicinity during the same period

Once malaria was overcome, and once agricultural production in the plain was set in motion, the station became an indispensable support for the nearby sugar refinery. In fact, there were five freight cars scheduled daily to transport its output.
