THE S. TEODORO WARD (NICASTRO)

S. Teodoro is the oldest section of Nicastro, having grown up around the Norman castle that was constructed in the second half of the XIth century. The construction of the section’s buildings began from below, taking advantage of the wide area around the castle.

The very first houses were built right on the embankments of the rivers Canne and Niola. Then were formed the small suburbs of S.Marco, of the Savior, and Casale Nuovo.

The whole section came to be called by its current name to distinguish it from the area called Terravecchia.
