PIAZZA
NICOTERA (NICASTRO)
During the month of july, 1916, Nicastro’s town council considered dividing up the former “Piazza d’Armi” (Military Square) into plots for building construction. One part of the wide expanse of the piazza was to become a public park with benches, trees and pathways.
For military uses for which the piazza had been intended, and for the fair of S. Pietro, the town designated a space below it, bounded by the old via di Terravecchia. During the Fascist period, the piazza’s name changed to that of the patriot Nicotera.
Around the 1950s, the town approved the Station-Autolinea project and the Colavolpe building on the Piazza.
