VIALE STAZIONE
This was a major town axis created to connect the urban center directly to the railway station, which was inaugurated at its present location in 1894. Planned by the engineer, Count Cesare Riario Sforza, this great urban artery was intended to run in a strict straight line, not only for functional reasons but also for reason of urban hygiene.
Indeed,
hygiene was a serious problem, inasmuch that right in 1893-94 a violent epidemic
of typhus burst forth in Nicastro.
For
that very reason many slum areas were gutted, and all the successive development
of Nicastro revolved around this road.
