ENTRANCE TO THE STATION AND CONVENT (MONASTERY) OF S. DOMENICO

The Monastery of the Dominicans carried out a determining role in the history of Nicastro from the 1500s onwards. It was built between 1506 and 1521 on the enduring church of the Annunziata, also called “Spedaletto.”

With its imposing structures, it dominated the lower portion of Nicastro’s historical center as well as the vast countryside around it. Near the convent, two olive presses and a mill were in operation, powered by the waters of the torrent Piazza, which reached them through a hanging aqueduct.
