CORSO NUMISTRANO AND THE DUOMO

The Duomo-Cathedral has always represented the heart of Nicastro and of the diocese. Bishop Tommaso Perrone had it built in its present site between 1640 and 1642.

Before then there was a Norman cathedral which princess Eremburga had built, and which Pope Callistus II consecrated in 1121. Bishop Valenzise (1888-1902) had the Norman façade torn down (seen in the photograph) and had the current one put up.

The town administration built the wide road in front of the Cathedral after the earthquake of 1832. It took the name Corso Numistrano.
