THE SUGAR REFINERY (S. EUFEMIA)
The
sugar refinery of S.Eufemia Lamezia was the last of the three that the Fascist
government authorized in southern Italy. The first two were in Capua in 1937
and Battipaglia 1938). The one in S. Eufemia was born in 1939, when on August
9 a plaque was set commemorating the beginning of construction.
The plant was inaugurated on August 17, 1942, but just four years later political maneuvering led to its closure.
The structure is now abandoned.
