PIAZZA MERCATO (MARKET
SQUARE-NICASTRO)
This so-named square of the 1700s, of the “princess’ huts” was reorganized after the earthquake of 1832 as part of an urban restructuring project of the Coltura area of town.
The task was assigned to the architect Perfetto Venuti. The huts were torn down and the area replaced by a “street-plaza” (today Corso Numistrano) and an underlying open square intended as a vegetable market, from which it got its name.
