A magnificent map is the one begun in 1583 by Niccolo Antonio Stelliola (1547 – 1623), which was later finished in 1590 by Cartaro, which he engraved and printed in 1611. There are only two extant manuscript copies of this map; one is in the Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli (National Library of Naples), dated 1613, and the other in the Biblioteca Vaticana (Vatican Library), dated 1625. On both maps, next to each locality, is marked the number of “hearths” (that is, family homes) existing there in 1595.
