In the Angevine period the castle was subjected to works of restoration, but we have no information regarding the castle during the whole of the Aragonese period which began in 1442. In the feudal period, the building was in the possession of the D’Aquino family. In 1609, following a tremor, a tower crumbled, and in 1638 another strong shock seriously damaged the whole castle. The bastions fell on the living quarters, and the castle itself, which had been used as a prison, was emptied when cleared for its last restoration. A later tremor damaged it in 1783. From then on it was for all intents and purposes abandoned. In 1883 the upper portion, with small towers in its main section, was dismantled and the material used for the construction of the nearby church of San Teodoro.
